I spy, Cottage Pie….

There is a definite chill in the air, and thoughts turn to richer dishes, my daughter is popping in tonight, but not sure what time, due to work, so I will make a yummy Cottage Pie, the beefy sister of Shepherds Pie 😍

I start my chopping an onion and gently frying till softened, then add 400g lean minced beef and sprinkle an oxo cube, a fat teaspoon of plain flour, some pepper a finely chopped medium carrot, whilst it is browning off – when it is brown and almost cooked, I add half a pint of water, a splash of Worcestershire sauce and cook down till it’s a thick rich gravy. I like to leave this to cool before putting into an ovenproof dish to form the base of the cottage pie.

Whilst this is bubbling away, chop 3 large potato’s and boil till soft and tender in boiling salted water, drain and mash with butter and a splash of milk mash till smooth then add to the base, fork the top to make it a bit rough, and dot butter onto it, then pop into a pre heated oven at 180 for approx 20-30 mins and serve with peas and gravy – yummm….

    1. I use those metal containers with the cardboard top to portion up, as I make meals for Mim in Law sometimes, and she prefers to rehear in the oven – they stack better than the plastic ones too πŸ™‚ watching out for your recipes too πŸ˜‹
