The Big Cleanup… including Leftovers πŸ€—

Our eldest and his girlfriend went home this morning, it was great having them stay for a few days.

I don’t know about you, but I am fed up with Christmas decorations and today is the day they get packed away for another 11.5 months πŸ˜„ I have frozen leftover beef and curries, ready for quick dinners. Β I bought a Vacuum sealer from Lidl years ago, and it is brilliant, not too expensive either, from memory, around Β£20.

I can catch up washing and straighten up the house – back to normal’ish.

I made a brunch using up some leftover mushrooms

and double cream, and the last of a jar of grain mustard

for ‘Mushrooms on toast’, just fry off some sliced mushrooms in a blob of butter, when they have softened, throw in a good glug of cream, a teaspoon or 2 of grain mustard and season to taste – tip over buttered toast – Yummmmm..

We are having Haggis for dinner, we were supposed to have it New Years Eve, but the kids aren’t keen, so tonight’s the night – made it before, soΒ HereΒ is the link.

We have another week off, so a bonus catch up week πŸ˜‡ Tax return to be done and some new kitchen units to be fitted – I can finally organise my cooking and crafting stuff 😍

Hi - I'm a 49 yo Mum to 3 kids - Jordan (23), Grace (21) and Max (19). And Wife to my lovely Husband, Dave and step mum to 4 fur babies, our cats Eric, Ernie, Cilla and Bobbie. We live on the beautiful Isle of Wight, Hubby and I were born here, and just love our home. As I hurtle towards 50, my life as a full time (working) parent is coming to an end, with my eldest 2 kids living their own lives, and my youngest who started University in September. I realised that this is not a time to be sad, but a time to take time to spend time on some of the things I enjoy doing - mainly cooking, crafting and creating Pinterest boards for said thing s :) This blog is just a way for me to record the next stages of our lives - I hope you enjoy my ramblings...

  1. Happy new year πŸ™‚

I have been looking for a cheap-ish vacuum sealer. I’ll keep an eye out at Lidl. In the meantime, I have a trick that helps: if you put your filled freezer bags in water almost to the top, it will create a vacuum of sorts. It’s not as good as a real sealer but it definitely helps.
