24 hrs – 3 countries food – Birthday break

We are back from a lovely stay on the mainland – essentially 24 hours of eating and drinking 😊

I had booked us into a really lovely hotel, which also had a fab Italian restaurant, as we arrived at lunchtime, it would have been rude not to try it… have a look Here

I had a delicious bowl of plump muscles, in a spicy tomato sauce, I must say, I can’t remember having such good muscles in the UK.

Hubby had a Seafood soup, which was absolutely packed with prawns, muscles, squid etc it was very flavoursome.

We both had a rare sirloin steak, which came with sauté potatoes and a really fresh tasty salad,  we both left most of the potatoes, it was just too much.

We shared a bottle of Orvieto which was light and fruity and fresh – yumm.

Once booked into our room, we contacted our eldest son that lives in Southampton and arranged where to meet for dinner, then, showing our age, had a little sleep 😇

We arrived at La Regata just before 7 and sat sipping chilled dry sherry and nibbling big, fat olives waiting for Eldest to arrive.

It was lovely to catch up with eldest, although, we speak most days we hadn’t seen him since Christmas.

We chose from the Tapas menu, its such a convivial way to eat and chat – we initially had padron peppers, Gambas with garlic and chorizo and chicken with chorizo and Baccalau fritas.  And, of course a bottle of dry Spanish wine, well 2 by the end of the evening.

Through the evening we added some saffron and seafood rice, dates with manchego cheese and patta negra ham and stuffed squid.

By this time we were fit to burst – the bill arrived, and I was pleasantly surprised how reasonable it was.

After saying goodbye to eldest, and making him promise to visit at Easter we walked all of 20 yards back to the hotel 😊 That blissful feeling when you undo your zip and get your shoes off – I am getting old Ha-ha…

We had a great night’s sleep and got up late (might have been the wine😉) after booking out and going for a little walk, we finished hubby’s Birthday extravaganza with an Ikea breakfast and the fast jet home 🤣

As Hubby put it, we may have only travelled 40 minutes, foodwise we went to Italy, Spain and Sweden – I know how to treat him 🤣🤣🤣

Tonights meal will be something tiny, maybe some cheese and biscuits- no wine….

Hi - I'm a 49 yo Mum to 3 kids - Jordan (23), Grace (21) and Max (19). And Wife to my lovely Husband, Dave and step mum to 4 fur babies, our cats Eric, Ernie, Cilla and Bobbie. We live on the beautiful Isle of Wight, Hubby and I were born here, and just love our home. As I hurtle towards 50, my life as a full time (working) parent is coming to an end, with my eldest 2 kids living their own lives, and my youngest who started University in September. I realised that this is not a time to be sad, but a time to take time to spend time on some of the things I enjoy doing - mainly cooking, crafting and creating Pinterest boards for said thing s :) This blog is just a way for me to record the next stages of our lives - I hope you enjoy my ramblings...
