Spring Sunday Lunch – Kleftico – Slow cooked Lamb Shoulder

I adore Greek food, and Spanish, and Middle Eastern, and French – Okay – I just love food… ๐Ÿ˜‡

About 3 years ago, we went to beautiful Parga in Greece, and in a little family run Taverna we had the most delicious Lamb Kleftico, served in sealed clay pots – I am going to try and recreate it.


I have a joint of boned Lamb Shoulder from Market Porter, an those lovely Aldi people have put their Lemons and garlic in their Super6- there should be leftovers for a quick dinner on Tuesday too – cook once, eat twice ๐Ÿ˜‡

I start by laying out a layer of tin foil and covering that with a sheet of baking parchment.


Onto this I put a layer of new potatoes, 3 thickly sliced red onions, 3 thickly sliced lemons, 3 roughly chopped fat cloves of garlic, drizzled with olive oil, seasoned well.


Then I place the Lamb shoulder on top of the veg, a drizzle of olive oil, season with salt and pepper, add a heaped teaspoon of dried oregano and 2 thickly sliced tomatoes.


Carefully wrap all of this into a parcel, using another layer or 2 of tin foil, to create a sealed parcel.


Place this into an ovenproof tray and into the oven for 4 hours and 170.

The house will smell amazing after this time.


Remove from the oven, carefully open the parcel, watch the steam, drain the juice into a pan then pop the lamb and potatoes back into the oven to brown off for 10-15 minutes.


The meat will fall apart, the potatoes will have soaked up all of those amazing juices – yummy….



I am serving with a homemade tzatziki and a watercress salad – it demands an ice cold glass of white wine too ๐Ÿ˜‰

I also have half a pack of digestive biscuits that need using,


so using Aldi basic milk chocolate,

the digestives, some marshmallows and sultanas to make a quick fridge cake ๐Ÿ˜‰


Mix it all together


and pack into a lined loaf tinย pop into the fridge



cut with a hot knife and enjoy ๐Ÿ˜Š
